Genista Davidson is an Art Historian, journalist, writer and author and her specialised subject is the Art Deco period. She has been an avid collector of vintage clothing and accessories for most of her life and has studied Fashion and textiles. For many years she has been finding hidden gems in Britain which are either original Art Deco buildings or have been inspired by that period in time of which she is passionate.
Genista teaches Art Deco courses for the WEA (Workers Education Association) and is a speaker for the W.I. Genista enjoys travelling throughout the country for book signings and lectures.
Genista's philosophy is 'You CAN wear rosy coloured spectacles throughout your life.......... there's nothing wrong with that. Nostalgia, pretty things, old fashioned good manners, if these are what make you happy then follow your heart, and remember always wear your 'Sunday Best' everyday!'
Genista's love of all things Art Deco grew and blossomed from her childhood, where she inherited an appreciation of architecture and the materials used to create these intriguing and fascinating buildings which never fail to brighten up a day or bring a smile of appreciation. For the past 30 years for business and pleasure she has always sought out art deco hotels, restaurants, cinemas, lidos and places of interest, where ever she has been in the UK or Overseas. She always travels with her current journal and meticulously records the details of the art deco dwelling or venue. These journals (in excess of 20) which are all well worn and 'dog earred' have been an invaluable resource for compiling and completing her Art Deco Traveller Series of books. The second book will be available later this year which is the Art Deco Traveller a Guide to the USA. Over the years as a freelance journalist, ghost writer and Art History tutor at home and overseas, Genista has had the pleasure of meeting and working with fellow art deco enthusiasts, who likewise wish to retain and restore our art deco heritage for future generations.
Wearing authentic 1930s clothing and the owner of dozens of vintage swimsuits (many of which Genista has inherited or kindly been given over the years) they get regular outings, throughout the summer months in the lidos listed in her book. Genista truly embraces and rejoices in the unique art deco era and wishes to share her love and passion with fellow enthusiasts.
